My painted, decorative boards, or Barn Quilts, make beautiful color focal points on barns, sheds, porches, the sides houses, or under mailboxes. Different geometric designs bring out my heritage. Although my mother did not quilt with fabric, I had many quilts in my house that covered my bed at different times as a girl growing up on Long Island, New York. Perhaps my grandmother, Vivien Roberts, did quilt at one time. I am not sure. My husband was born and raised in North Carolina where we live at present. His mother, Jean Peele, entered a "Sun Bonnet Baby" quilt in the county fair that had been in her family, and she won a blue ribbon. Fabric quilting and quilt patterns seem to be ingrained in me, and I love painting in patterns and designs from quilt patterns. Because they look beautiful on barns and other places, I also love painting pictures of barns. Now that is probably because my dad was an artist who painted landscapes of barns in watercolor and egg tempera. I paint my Barn Quilts with exterior paint, and I paint my landscapes in watercolor, oils, and acrylics.
