Quilt patterns on fabric have been around for centuries. However, Barn Quilts began in Ohio by Donna Sue Groves in 2001. Nancy became interested in Barn Quilts while driving through parts of Pennsylvania and Virginia in 2016. She saw them displayed on the sides of barns and thought she would love to make one. After studying about Barn Quilts, or square paintings of quilt patterns painted on boards and hung on the sides of barns or houses, she began painting them. She taught several classes and helped other people to complete their dream, as well. Presently, Nancy is turning her focus to North Carolina quilt patterns as seen on vintage quilts made by ladies in her own county, as well as others across the state of North Carolina. Paintings of old barns are included in her gallery as she loves to envision a Barn Quilt on the side of each of them.
